Hunza Eats — FAQ
Is Shilajit Safe? What About Heavy Metals?
This is the single most important thing to understand before taking any Shilajit product, and we would rather explain it plainly than gloss over it.
The Real Risk
Because Shilajit forms geologically in rock, unrefined or poorly processed Shilajit can carry heavy metals including lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium — either naturally present in the source rock or introduced through careless harvesting or adulteration. Lead exposure specifically is linked to neurological and cardiovascular harm even at relatively low levels.

What Actually Mitigates This Risk
Purification and third-party lab testing are the factors that separate a responsibly sourced Shilajit product from a risky one. When evaluating any Shilajit product — ours included — ask whether the seller can show real testing results, not just a purity claim.
Our Position
Our Shilajit Choco Bites use a food-format dose (approximately 0.05g per bite), which is meaningfully smaller than the concentrated resin or capsule doses used in most safety discussions. We are updating this page as we finalise third-party testing documentation for our specific Shilajit source, and will link results here once available.
