How Much Honey Should You Eat Per Day?

A simple, practical question with a genuinely simple answer.

The Typical Safe Range

For healthy adults, 1-2 tablespoons (roughly 15-30 grams) per day is the range most consistently cited as a sensible amount — enough to enjoy honey's flavour and use it as a sugar substitute, without turning it into a significant source of excess sugar and calories.

Why More Is Not Automatically Better

Above 3-4 tablespoons a day, you are mainly adding sugar and calories without a proportional increase in any beneficial compound. Honey works best as a replacement for refined sugar in your diet, not an addition on top of your existing sugar intake.

A Practical Way to Use It

Stir into tea once it has cooled slightly (boiling water can degrade raw honey's natural enzymes), drizzle over yoghurt or porridge, or use as a 1:1 sweetener swap for sugar in recipes where honey's flavour works.
